Many states have mandated a standardization of hospital “alert” band colors. Below is a link to a map and a color key (compliments of the ISG and The St. John Company)
Hospitals use these color-coded wristbands to quickly communicate a patients health status, condition, or alert. These bands are standardized so every healthcare professional in the state understands what each color represents.
Florida’s colors are as follows:
RED means Allergy Alert
If a patient has an allergy to anything - food, medicine, dust, grass, etc.
YELLOW means Fall Risk
Nurses assess patients throughout their stay to determine if they need extra attention in order to prevent a fall.
PURPLE means DNR or Do Not Resesitate
Some patients choose not to be resesitated if their heart stops beating.
